Evolution Korea
In the past, the Korean scientific community resisted engaging with the creationists out of fear of giving the movement more credibility. But silence is no longer an option.
The STR has been fighting to remove the content on evolution from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestral bird. This is only one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a scientific theory that explains the changes in the genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based upon the fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which may result in changes to genes or entire genomes. These changes can over many generations lead to the emergence of new species. 무료에볼루션 of evolution is natural selection, which explains the process that allows people with advantages survive and reproduce more often than those with disadvantages. This differing reproduction may eventually lead to the creation and evolution of new species.
The word "evolution" is derived from Latin for revealing or unrolling has been used in many different ways as the concept has evolved in both science and elsewhere. Some early evolutionists, including Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that the existing species transformed into other species in a certain way. The term"transmutation" was coined by the Lamarck's disciple, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 opposed this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the idea that species are evolving into different species in a gradual and predictable way.
In recent years, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process when living creatures develop characteristics that enhance their chances of survival or ability to produce offspring. Over time this genetic variation can lead to the emergence of entirely new physical or biological functions in the population. Natural selection is the mechanism that triggers the most evolutionary changes. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet, cannot be considered evolution because they don't pass on to the next generation.
Creationists have a tendency to use the argument that evolution is controversial in spite of the fact that it has been proven true by thousands of scientific tests and it has stood the test of time. They argue that the concept should not be taught at school. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories against evolution in textbooks for high schools. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary origins for humans as well as Archaeopteryx - a feathered dino believed to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains the origins and evolution of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the pillars of biology and helps scientists understand how living things work and grow. Evolution also demonstrates how different species are connected. Scientists study evolution to gain a better understanding of the natural world and to make useful discoveries including the development of new treatments.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that can explain so much about the universe as well as life on this planet, and it has been thoroughly tested and confirmed over a long period of time. Many people, including religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. It is essential to remember that evolutionary biology doesn't interfere with religious beliefs since it only deals with physical objects, events and processes.
Many religious people have found a way to reconcile evolution with their beliefs. Some Christians, for example, believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans share an ancestry that is shared with other animals.
It is important for scientists to advocate for the teaching of evolution. In certain countries, anti-evolution sentiment has been rising. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit the teaching of evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research is pushing for the elimination of textbook content about the evolution of horses as well as the Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.

It is vital to remember that the evidence in favor of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a diverse range of sources, such as fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.
The majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. This support is based on various reasons. Certain scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries such as developing new medicines and other treatments, while others use it to improve the quality of animal and plant species, mostly to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, and others have a deep religious belief in God and are seeking to know how the universe functions.
What is Creationism?
Creationists are those who believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken literally. Although Creationists may not all be Christian but they are a majority. Creationists generally fall in two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
The most popular type of creationist is the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is literal, and that the universe and the life on Earth began only recently.
OECs might not be as known however their beliefs are just as intense as the YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old and that evolution is a myth.
Both forms of creationism deny that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origins of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible because it requires the creation of a miracle, and the pioneers of modern science shied away from miracles due to fear of losing credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation. They consider their views to be "theistic evolution.” This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." This theory states that God creates the original species and then allows these to evolve over time. In the end these evolutionary changes will result in new species identical to the original species.
Other creationists hold that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that the original species were all created at the same time, and that they grew slowly afterwards. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis, and argue that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.
In general, creationists are against teaching of evolution in schools. This position is supported by numerous professional organizations, including the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education, the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. Certain scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and allow creationism and evolution to be incorporated into their curricula.
What is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their textbooks. A group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. The STR has achieved its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of an avian, called the Archeopteryx. Its sights are now set on removing snippets of Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution, too.
STR claims that it has the backing of 4,000 families as well as individual members. Its mission, it states is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" that paints a negative view for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists across the country. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that around half do not believe in evolution. The causes aren't clear, but may include religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists in the United States.
The KACR achieved many things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and an ebook. One of them was a textbook on natural science that had a creationist perspective. This sparked an interest among college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister, began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught today.
On August 6 and 7, 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand. KACR and its members have been giving lectures on creation science at major seminaries too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
